For over a decade, LESCOTA has been walking alongside the rural communities of Matekela in the Mbinga District of Tanzania—listening, learning, and building sustainable solutions that create lasting change. What began as a vision in 2012 has grown into a movement of hope, empowering vulnerable children, women, and families through education, health, and community development.
Our Mission is clear: to improve the lives of vulnerable children, youth, women, and communities by providing access to quality education, promoting child protection, empowering livelihoods, strengthening health and well-being, and fostering sustainable community development through partnerships, innovation, and local participation.
Our Vision is bold: a Tanzania where every child, woman, and community has equal access to quality education, opportunities, and the resources needed to thrive in a safe, inclusive, and sustainable society.
What We Do
Through our nine transformative projects, we are creating pathways out of poverty and building a brighter future for generations to come:
LESCOTA Community Library — A safe space for reading, learning, and digital access
Mango Pre & Primary School — The only English Medium School in Ruvuma region, serving 512 children
Nguzo Secondary School — Developing future leaders through academic excellence
Kesho Bora Project — Bridging students from primary to secondary school with confidence
Women Empowerment Project — Helping women become economically independent
Youth & Sports Development — Empowering 1,000 young people through sports and leadership
Sustainable Agriculture — Supporting 1,000 farming households with climate-smart practices

Why Matekela?
Our focus is the rural village of Matekela in the Mbinga district—home to 3,709 people and one of the most remote areas in Tanzania. This is a place where healthcare access is limited, health records are fragmented, and opportunities are few. But it is also a place of resilience, hope, and community spirit.
With 53% of the population aged 0-19 years, the need for education, health, and opportunity has never been greater. And that’s exactly where LESCOTA steps in.
